GSA Honors the Career Achievements of Jeff Regnart
The Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) is proud to announce that Jeff Regnart is the latest recipient of the Wallace R. Stevens Lifetime Achievement Award. Regnart accepted the award during GSA’s Responsible Seafood Summit, held last week in Cartagena, Colombia.
A champion of sustainably managed fisheries resources, Regnart was instrumental in GSA’s transformation from the aquaculture-focused organization Global Aquaculture Alliance into the Global Seafood Alliance, a transition completed in 2021. With GSA’s expanded focus, its products and services became more readily available to both the farmed and wild-capture seafood sectors.

Regnart’s career in fisheries began at an early age in Alaska when he conducted stream assessments for the state’s Department of Fish and Game. He would ultimately work for nearly 30 years for Alaska fisheries before launching a consulting career in fisheries policy in 2015.
In collaboration with the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI), Regnart created a fisheries standards program that would later become known as Responsible Fisheries Management. Now operating as Certified Seafood International, the program certifies more than 3 million metric tons of fish in Alaska and along the U.S. Pacific coast, as well as the Gulf of Mexico shrimp fishery.
“I’m grateful and a bit overwhelmed by this recognition,” said Regnart. “My career has been shaped by so many mentors, colleagues and friends who share a love of seafood and the people who depend on it. This award belongs to all of them as much as it does to me.”
“It was Jeff’s steady hand that allowed an aquaculture program and a certified fishery program to come together. Not an easy task,” said Wally Stevens, Chair of GSA’s Board of Directors. “For the tough negotiations that resulted in a bridge between the fisheries and aquaculture, it is our pleasure to recognize Jeff Regnart with this lifetime achievement award.”
Currently, Regnart is based in Louisiana and is the Vice President of Programs and Standards at Certified Seafood International.
