Consultants Sought to Assess Social Impact of BAP Certification
The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) is pleased to announce a call for proposals to assess the social impact of the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification.
Social accountability is a core pillar of the BAP third-party certification program and a critical component of responsible aquaculture production.
To gain greater knowledge and understanding of what drives social change in aquaculture, GAA is calling for an independent team of consultants to evaluate the social impact of the BAP certification. The goal of the study is to better understand how BAP’s social and labor standards are applied and how they impact practices among seafood farmers, processors and buyers.
Currently, there are more than 2,000 BAP-certified processing plants, farms, hatcheries, and feed mills in 33 countries and six continents. This study will focus on a selection of countries in each continent and investigate impact through data analysis and stakeholder interviews.
Insights from this study will be used to further develop BAP and to promote socially sustainable seafood more broadly. The study’s findings will be reported on at the GOAL 2018 conference in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and at other GAA-supported activities; the findings will also be publicly available on the GAA and BAP websites.
1) Statement of Interest detailing the team’s experience and expertise relevant to the assignment. Please explain how the team understands the methodology of the assignment, highlighting issues that are not clear from the description in this note. This letter should not exceed three pages.
2) CVs for the team leader and data analyst. Local consultants will be identified later in consultation with GAA and partners.
3) A price proposal, indicating the estimated number of working days for the team leader and the data analyst as well as an estimate of travel and other costs. The proposal will form the basis for further negotiations for the contract amount. When evaluating expressions of interest, GAA will place equal weight upon the CVs and methodology observations and upon the price proposal with a view to ensure value for money.
GAA will contact the team selected for the assignment and reserves the right to reject any and all expressions of interest.
