Full Report on Southeast Asian Fishmeal Fisheries Released

In April, the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) and IFFO, the Marine Ingredients Organisation, released the main findings of a joint-funded project improving the understanding of Southeast Asia fisheries that supply raw material for fishmeal production. The report was produced by Duncan Leadbitter of Fish Matter Pty. Ltd. after approximately 10 months of data gathering, using both publicly available information and in-country sources.

On Nov. 21, GAA and IFFO released the full report. The document contains a summary of data that has not yet been publicly available. The full report follows the publication of Sustainable Fisheries Partnership’s (SFP) report on reduction fisheries, which includes a chapter on Asian reduction fisheries. SFP also emphasizes the importance of meeting the current challenges in Asian fisheries management in the context of the growth of aquaculture in the region.
