Lobster cage culture has great potential in Indonesia. The current industry consists of about 1,000 small-scale farm units, many of which raise lobsters in polyculture with seaweed and grouper. 

Researchers at the Gondol Research Institute for Mariculture in Indonesia have studied the artificial propagation of groupers since 1995. In 2001, GRIM began successfully producing grouper seedstock at commercial-scale levels.

In Indonesia, shrimp farming practices vary somewhat from region to region depending on the local conditions and financial pressures. 

In L. vannamei trials in Indonesia, results confirmed that somewhat lower protein levels in feed had no effect on production performance.
